Happy Father's Day Flip Album

For Father's Day I made my Dad a flip album.

My Dad is not the kind of Dad who likes stuff.

What he does like is effort, Oh, and he likes lotto tickets.

This year I wanted to make him a flip book. So this is what I came up with.

I used:

Tan Textured Card stock

Red and tan paper

On The Boardwalk Collection by Graphic 45

Red ribbon

Salvage Stickers by Tim Holtz

Red Metal Letters ( I bought about 5 years ago)

Yellow mini brads for tags

Cover of flip book. My kids and I signed our names on the cover.

I used Tim Holtz Salvage Letter stickers and ruler.

My Dad is a carpenter so the ruler was perfect.
I used foam tape to raise the ruler and letters.

When you flip open the left panel you see the first photo taken of when he became my Dad.

On the right panel is a photo of my 3 little Leprechauns when they were very young.

(I don't share photos of my kids or family without permission)

I filled the flip album with photos of my kids at all ages.

Each child has their own section.

To separate the sections I used photos with all three of my kids.

The last two center panels I made to hold tags/ book marks.

The final center panel is for my son Michael, since he is my father's first Grand son.

The Gift Box I made for the Flip Album:

2 sheets of 12 x 12 On The Board Walk cardstock from Graphic 45

This is the gift box I made out of the same Graphic 45 cardstock.

When I made the box, the ends met perfectly, which was a problem.

I decided to trim 1/2" of the top section so the bottom stripes would show.

I loved the colors, the images and the details of the cardstock.
It made the project so easy to create.

Wrapping up the album in yellow tissue paper.
Just a pop or color.

Next came the lotto tickets.

I just filled the machine with money and let each kid take turns picking.

The cute part is this is their favorite gift to give to Papa.

Nice and clean. My dad does not like to fuss with too many ties or tape.

Top on.

A simple tag in tan cardstock with the same red ribbon for a bow, and I am done.

I usually gift albums every couple of years, but never to my Dad. He never struck me as the kind to look at them. Then one day I noticed he was relaxing in his Lazy Boy and he had an album and he was showing the Bitties, telling them all bout us as a family before they were born. I realized then, that he does look at them.

Since most of the albums my mom has are not in any particular order, it does take effort to look through them. My Dad, like most dads do not like the idea of having to search through things, with this album he won't have to.

This book was so much fun. My dad likes to look at photos. When we give him photos they usually end up in his dresser. By putting them in a Flip Album, he is able to keep them all in one place.

Mini Purse Album

When you have kids, pets, or people you love, chances are you also have photos of them you want to show and share with people.

People use to carry brag books, or mini albums in their bags, but now the world has gone digital, and with it came the huge storage of photos on your digital devices.

Usually people keep these photos on their cell phones, but if you ever have shown some one a photo on your cell phone, you know once you pull up the photo, their hand reaches out to take your phone to get a better look.

For me, this is where I have a problem. Handing over my cell phone, is not my ideal.

So many things can go wrong at that moment, not to mention if they decide to pass it around to share your photo with others or gasp... hand it to a child.

My phone has suffered countless drops, accidental deletes and many other horrors at the hands of those looking at my digital photos.

So it got me to think. What if I make a mini purse album, and hang it from my purse? I can share photos of my kids and favorite moments of our life, with out having to teach some one how to use my phone, or putting it at risk of drop.

It came out perfect and it held enough photos to fit each of my kids and I didn't mind when some one asked to see it.

To make I used:

12 x 12 sheet of paper cut into 4" squares

2 pieces of card stock cut into 2" squares

6" strip of ribbon

Back Cover... we love Disneyland.

We always take these sticker photos at Autotopia and they were the perfect size for this project.

I used a ring to clip it on my zipper as it is easier to remove to show.

This project was fun, It didn't take very long, and used very little supplies.

You can add as many pages as you like or need.

The only down side is you can't embellish it as it impedes the closure of it, but you can embellish the cover and back cover.

It is a great way to use sticker photos, mini photos, and favorite photos.

It's a fantastic idea for backpacks, kids, and emergency/earthquake kits.

I pack one for each emergency kit, so in case of emergency, my kids have photos of the ones they love.

Bobby's 1st Birthday Layout

For my nephew Bobby's 1st Birthday my sister Kelly gave him a Thomas the Tank Engine birthday party.

What little boy or girl doesn't love Thomas.

My kids did, and still do.

For Bobby's Birthday layout I wanted to match his theme and his invitation.

Anytime I scrapbook a Birthday or Party, the invitation is what dictates my color choice.

Thomas the Tank Engine has 3 colors that I see when I close my eyes. Red, Blue and Yellow.

So this is what I came up with.

I used:

Yellow, Red, and Blue card stock

Thomas the Tank Engine stickers

1 sheet of Thomas the Tank 12 x 12 paper

Red mesh

Black Ink

I have a plastic drawer set, that I labeled with years, and every time I get a birthday invitation or memorabilia that I want to add to my scrapbook, I put it in a plastic ziploc with date and brief description and I put it in the drawer for that year. I date my drawers by grouping years. Such as 2008, 2009, 2010, it makes it easier to find what i need when i start scrapbooking.

Inhaler Holder

Every year I make my kids ID holders, since their school like many schools require them to wear it around their necks like cow bells.

To make this bearable and stylish, I make a trip out of it to our local fabric store and I let them pick whatever fabric no matter the price. After all, it takes less than a half of yard to make the ID/cell phone holder and the inhaler holder.

I also know, that when my kids pick the fabric themselves, they can spot it faster, and take better care of it. It's personalized, it's original and tailored just for them.

For my daughter I not only make her an ID holder, but I add a zippered pocket that holds her cell phone .

This year, she was allowed to carry her inhaler, and of course with all the school paper work, we get to sign a lovely form stating that she will not allow another child to use or take her inhaler.

Well, I know teenagers, and they don't always keep their hands to themselves and my worse fear was that another teenager would take and try and use it... That she would lose it... or that she would have an attack and it would be in one of the many pockets hidden in her messenger bag and she would not get to it in time.

So I decided that if I can make her an ID/cell phone holder, why can't I make an Inhaler holder.

I knew that if it matched her ID/cell phone holder she wouldn't mind it hanging from her ID holder. By hanging from her ID holder it would be in perfect reach for when she needed it.

Not only did it come out cute, because she picked a beautiful pink Kimono fabric, but it actually made it through the entire year, and not once did she lose it, or did it get in the wrong hands.

Here is the side view. I did not have a pattern, so I basically winged it. It fit perfect and it had enough space to slide it in and out to change without it falling out.

Here it is in action. Not bad for my first try.
Next year it will be better.

This was one of my favorite ideas. So much that i made a few more for her to clip to all her bags and purses, so that she never has to worry that she will be with out one.

Hello Kitty Waterfall Albums

Birthdays can bring many memories and many photos.

If you are like me, you can end up with 100+ for each birthday. Sounds like a reasonable amount, till I factor in I have 3 kids and their birthdays are back to back and during the months of big holidays.

For my daughter's birthday I took so many photos that I ended up with a huge album just for her birthday.

One of the things that i struggled with, was how do I fit all the photos of the opening of the gifts on to one or two pages??? I knew that was an impossible task.

In my family we document the gifts as well as the party. It's a tradition and a way we can look back and remember what we liked, the style of the times and who we were at that time.

My problem was I had 19 photos of my daughter opening gifts. I wanted not only to document who gave her what, and the photo of her opening it, but i didn't want to take up several pages for it. My solution a waterfall album on the page. I ended up making two of them.

Problem solved. Woo Hoo!

The red and smaller Hello Kitty waterfall album, was made for the who, what, when and where of my daughter at this age. Each page has a question about her on a coupon. I then gave them to her and she answered them in her own handwriting (which I love). When she was done, i put them in the waterfall album and added it to her now, huge Hello Kitty birthday book.

The large pink Hello Kitty waterfall album, was made for all the photos of the opening of the gifts. In this album I place a photo of my daughter opening each gift and then I had her tell me about who gave it to her. I then place a small photo of the friend who gave it to her. For me having the story of who gave it to her, and how it made her feel, is the true gift.

She loves Hello Kitty, Anime and Cosplay. So we combined them all.

This pocket holds a few of the decorations we made.

Each tag described the party schedule and activities.

On these tags my daughter and I both answered questions about her.

A total of 7 tags.

In the end I ended up with 32 wonderful pages in her birthday book. The mini waterfall albums were a perfect way to fit many photos in a small space and to keep them grouped together. I think this will be a keeper on the birthday books.

Halloween Cat Card

25 Days till Halloween.

Woo Hoo!

I started thinking of all Halloweens past and I remembered my sister Kelly's cat Blackie.

He was such a beautiful cat, but a terror.

He did however fill our days will hilarious memories.

So this card is for Blackie.
